Why Hike?

I love to be on the trail and be connected with the nature that surrounds you when hiking. The animal noises, the sights, and most of all-(having fun)! With all this taking my pace that I can't go too fast, neither too slow. Too see the sights and have an average pace.

I realized how much I paid attention to details more than others today, 7/14/18, when we crossed some rocks. I shall tell you a piece of the experience in my perspective.

I watched as mom crossed the rock graveyard and she hopped down at the other side. Before I went I took a brief vivid look and smell at the surroundings. It seemed like a snake would live here, I thought. I looked around at the sun-dappled ground before me on the rocks. There was a stream nearby that I looked at for a while. There also seemed to be an old property owned to some rich person or a farmer. Because of two fences that where here, and far back near the beginning of the trail. I shook myself awake as mom called, "You coming?" I responded, "Yeah, I'm coming!"

Of course I went, about two or three feet and then I looked down of where to put my next foot and saw this face staring back at me! I froze for a moment and realized, that's a snake! I jumped back in a rushing motion. My mom asked me, "What's wrong?" I exclaimed, "There was a snake!" She was startled by this news and helped me to the other side without going near the snake or at least that I know of. How I learned that I saw the snake, couldn't miss it! While my mom stepped over the snake's cave and didn't notice! (Lol)
The snake's cave was actually just a small hole in the ground, and I couldn't imagine someone missing it. I hope to improve this in the future.

The thing I love about hiking is that you never really expect what will pop out at you. That's the exciting part!

Why I want to hike the Appalachian Trail...

I want to hike the AT because I want to prove to those who lack self confidence and don't believe in their goals. No matter how hard you try, you could catch your tail or give up. I'm not going to stop until I drop.

I want to prove that you can do it even with no one to guide you, but there is always a character that will help you. You'll find a person like that if you look hard enough. Now, I'm not saying that you'll always succeed, you will most likely have lots of fails before you succeed. Now that's a path I want!

While on the trail I hope to learn that nature has limits and survival is harder than it seems. We all have our wild side, but we just might or might not let it out. I think that nature is a great place for your wild true self.

For it is where the wild lives. We are not the owners of nature. For the wild ones are.
